Senior software engineer

I build the software a business runs on.

I'm Grant DeFayette, a senior software engineer with 13+ years shipping products end to end. I build new systems, modernize the aging ones, and rescue the stranded, then keep them running. Lately I prefer to build in Rust and React, and I still work across Node, Java, and .NET.

Open to full-time senior and staff engineering roles. Remote, across US time zones.

What I bring

One engineer, end to end

Deep implementation across many stacks, system design from first principles, and clear communication with the team while the work ships. I take a problem from architecture to shipped, maintainable code and stay accountable for how it runs in production.

BatchHound

BatchHound is a pet food recipe hub for building and validating homemade dog food. Recipes are checked against FEDIAF 2025 and AAFCO 2016 nutrient standards, portions are calculated per dog by weight and life stage, and shopping lists are generated by pack quantity. An MCP server lets AI assistants help draft recipes.
